Ghouls 'n Ghosts

Ghouls 'n Ghosts (1988) is a platform game developed by Capcom and released in arcades and for the Sega Genesis. It has a prequel, Ghosts 'n Goblins (1985), an alternate version, Super Ghouls 'n Ghosts (1991), two spin-offs, Gargoyle's Quest (1990) and Gargoyle's Quest II (1992) and a quasi-sequel, Maximo: Ghosts to Glory (2001).

The defining characteristics of the series are its mock-spooky theme, its memorable music and art, and its incredibly difficult gameplay. Players take on the role of King Arthur, whose bride is kidnapped by the Devil, and run through a series of ever-stranger stages, jumping, throwing daggers and holy water, destroying undead, collecting treasure, fighting bizarre bosses, and often stripping down to boxer shorts.

In the Gargoyle's Quest spin-off games, players control one of the gargoyle enemies from the main series. The theme and feeling of the main series remains, while gameplay is a somewhat derivative combination of jumping, shooting, flying and RPG elements.
