The racial makeup of the town is 37.36% White, 61.77% African American, 0.23% Native American, 0.00% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.00% from other races, and 0.63% from two or more races. 0.35% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 697 households out of which 31.0% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 37.6% are married couples living together, 25.1% have a female householder with no husband present, and 33.7% are non-families. 31.7% of all households are made up of individuals and 15.6% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older.
