George Stokes

George Stokes was born in Skreen, Co. Sligo in 1819 and died in Cambridge, England in 1903. He derived the equations of motion for (i) the internal friction of fluids and (ii) the behaviour of waves in elastic solids.He coined the word "fluorescence".
