George Reid

George Reid is a Scottish politician. A member of the Scottish National Party (SNP) he was a Member of Parliament from 1974 to 1979 and in 1999 was elected to represent Mid-Scotland and Fife in the Scottish Parliament.

In 1999 he was defeated by David Steel for the position of Presiding Officer of the Scottish Parliament and was instead elected a Deputy Presiding Officer.

At the 2003 Scottish Parliamentary Election he was elected to represent the Ochil constituency. He was elected by his fellow MSPs to succeed Steel as Presiding Officer.

Reid has previously worked in television journalism and for the International Red Cross.
