Gascon language

Gascon language is a romance language mostly spoken in Gascony, the French départements of Pyrenees Atlantiques, Hautes Pyrenees, and Ariege, and in the small Spanish valley Val d'Aran, on the Northwest of Catalonia. Some linguist consider it a dialect of Occitan language. The Gascon language comprises four dialects:
  • Landese (Landais)
  • Bearnese (Béarnais)
  • Ariegese (Ariégeois)
  • Aranese (Aranès)
Of these, only Aranese is spoken in Spain. Aranese have received a great influence from Catalan and Spanish, and thus differentiating it from its French counterparts. It is co-oficial with Spanish and Catalan.

Gascon and Basque language have had mutual influences.
