Garden Grove is a city located in Orange County, California. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 165,196.

Geography Garden Grove is located at 33°46'44" North, 117°57'37" West (33.778766, -117.960267)1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 46.7 km² (18.0 mi²). 46.7 km² (18.0 mi²) of it is land and 0.1 km² (0.04 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.11% water.

Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 165,196 people, 45,791 households, and 36,449 families residing in the city. The population density is 3,539.5/km² (9,165.2/mi²). There are 46,703 housing units at an average density of 1,000.7/km² (2,591.1/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 46.88% White, 1.31% African American, 0.76% Native American, 30.92% Asian, 0.65% Pacific Islander, 15.35% from other races, and 4.12% from two or more races. 32.45% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 45,791 households out of which 42.6% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 59.7% are married couples living together, 13.0% have a female householder with no husband present, and 20.4% are non-families. 15.2% of all households are made up of individuals and 6.0% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 3.56 and the average family size is 3.90.

In the city the population is spread out with 28.5% under the age of 18, 9.2% from 18 to 24, 33.4% from 25 to 44, 19.3% from 45 to 64, and 9.5% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 32 years. For every 100 females there are 100.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 98.6 males.

The median income for a household in the city is $47,754, and the median income for a family is $49,697. Males have a median income of $33,295 versus $26,709 for females. The per capita income for the city is $16,209. 13.9% of the population and 10.5% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 17.1% are under the age of 18 and 10.0% are 65 or older.

Government

The city's mayor is Bruce A. Broadwater, and the city council members are Van Tran, William Dalton, Mark Leyes and Mark Rosen. They meet on the second and fourth Tuesdays of each month.
