Gallatin County is a county located in the U.S. State of Montana. As of 2000, the population is 67,831. Its county seat is Bozeman6.

Geography According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 6,816 km² (2,632 mi²). 6,749 km² (2,606 mi²) of it is land and 67 km² (26 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.99% water.

Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 67,831 people, 26,323 households, and 16,188 families residing in the county. The population density is 10/km² (26/mi²). There are 29,489 housing units at an average density of 4/km² (11/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 96.20% White, 0.23% African American, 0.88% Native American, 0.89% Asian, 0.06% Pacific Islander, 0.54% from other races, and 1.19% from two or more races. 1.54% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 26,323 households out of which 29.70% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 51.80% are married couples living together, 6.60% have a female householder with no husband present, and 38.50% are non-families. 24.10% of all households are made up of individuals and 5.70% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.46 and the average family size is 2.94.

In the county the population is spread out with 22.00% under the age of 18, 18.50% from 18 to 24, 30.40% from 25 to 44, 20.60% from 45 to 64, and 8.50% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 31 years. For every 100 females there are 108.30 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 108.70 males.

The median income for a household in the county is $38,120, and the median income for a family is $46,639. Males have a median income of $30,866 versus $21,330 for females. The per capita income for the county is $19,074. 12.80% of the population and 6.30% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 10.50% are under the age of 18 and 5.60% are 65 or older.
