Gabriel Derzhaven (
1743-
1816) was a
Russian lyric poet. Born in
Kazan, he rose from the ranks as a common soldier to the highest offices of state under
Catherine the Great[?] and her successors. Upon his retirement, he devoted himself to poetry. His best-known work is the ode "Address to the Deity."
