Futurepop

Futurepop is a recently-emerging musical genre growing primarily out of synthpop and EBM. It is characterized by uplifting grandiose synthesizer melodies reminiscent of trance, but almost always has vocals. The genre has few cultural connections to trance, however -- its historical roots can be trained mainly to EBM and the related "dark electronics" culture (darkwave[?]; electro-goth[?]), and the lyrics and melodies often retain a darker undertone.

The classification of bands as futurepop is rather unclear, with some adopting the new term and others shunning it. Many futurepop bands originated as EBM bands, making the distinction still more problematic. Apoptygma Berzerk is often considered the first futurepop band, and especially in their later albums, they can be said to epitomize the genre. Other notable bands considered futurepop at least by some include VNV Nation (later works), Covenant[?] (later works), and T.O.Y.[?].
