Fulton Township, Pennsylvania

Fulton Township is a township located in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. As of the 2000 census, the population of the township is 2,826.

Geography According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 75.9 km² (29.3 mi²). 67.1 km² (25.9 mi²) of it is land and 8.8 km² (3.4 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 11.60% water.

Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 2,826 people, 932 households, and 748 families residing in the township. The population density is 42.1/km² (109.1/mi²). There are 1,043 housing units at an average density of 15.5/km² (40.3/mi²). The racial makeup of the township is 97.45% White, 1.27% African American, 0.04% Native American, 0.21% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.32% from other races, and 0.71% from two or more races. 1.20% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 932 households out of which 40.3% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 67.9% are married couples living together, 7.1% have a female householder with no husband present, and 19.7% are non-families. 16.2% of all households are made up of individuals and 5.5% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 3.03 and the average family size is 3.41.

In the township the population is spread out with 33.6% under the age of 18, 7.2% from 18 to 24, 28.9% from 25 to 44, 21.7% from 45 to 64, and 8.6% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 32 years. For every 100 females there are 99.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 100.5 males.

The median income for a household in the township is $41,356, and the median income for a family is $44,394. Males have a median income of $35,027 versus $24,205 for females. The per capita income for the township is $15,735. 13.7% of the population and 10.4% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 17.4% are under the age of 18 and 20.1% are 65 or older.
