Fulton, Oswego County, New York

Fulton is a city located in Oswego County, New York. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 11,855.

Geography Fulton is located at 43°19'12" North, 76°24'48" West (43.319878, -76.413224)1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 12.3 km² (4.8 mi²). 9.9 km² (3.8 mi²) of it is land and 2.4 km² (0.9 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 19.75% water.

Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 11,855 people, 4,923 households, and 2,973 families residing in the city. The population density is 1,198.2/km² (3,102.9/mi²). There are 5,501 housing units at an average density of 556.0/km² (1,439.8/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 96.80% White, 0.74% African American, 0.37% Native American, 0.33% Asian, 0.03% Pacific Islander, 0.88% from other races, and 0.85% from two or more races. 1.92% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 4,923 households out of which 31.8% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 40.9% are married couples living together, 15.0% have a female householder with no husband present, and 39.6% are non-families. 33.6% of all households are made up of individuals and 15.8% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.38 and the average family size is 3.02.

In the city the population is spread out with 27.2% under the age of 18, 8.7% from 18 to 24, 28.0% from 25 to 44, 20.1% from 45 to 64, and 16.0% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 36 years. For every 100 females there are 89.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 84.0 males.

The median income for a household in the city is $29,054, and the median income for a family is $38,655. Males have a median income of $35,665 versus $23,102 for females. The per capita income for the city is $16,133. 19.3% of the population and 15.1% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 25.6% are under the age of 18 and 12.7% are 65 or older.
