Fountain Run, Kentucky

Fountain Run is a city located in Monroe County, Kentucky. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 236.

Geography Fountain Run is located at 36°43'17" North, 85°57'41" West (36.721319, -85.961398)1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 2.5 km² (1.0 mi²). 2.5 km² (1.0 mi²) of it is land and none of it is covered by water.

Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 236 people, 110 households, and 66 families residing in the city. The population density is 93.0/km² (241.6/mi²). There are 119 housing units at an average density of 46.9/km² (121.8/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 95.76% White, 2.54% African American, 0.00% Native American, 0.00% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 1.69% from other races, and 0.00% from two or more races. 1.69% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 110 households out of which 25.5% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 45.5% are married couples living together, 13.6% have a female householder with no husband present, and 39.1% are non-families. 36.4% of all households are made up of individuals and 29.1% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.15 and the average family size is 2.81.

In the city the population is spread out with 23.7% under the age of 18, 6.8% from 18 to 24, 20.8% from 25 to 44, 22.0% from 45 to 64, and 26.7% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 44 years. For every 100 females there are 71.0 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 68.2 males.

The median income for a household in the city is $11,591, and the median income for a family is $26,875. Males have a median income of $21,250 versus $23,750 for females. The per capita income for the city is $18,547. 27.6% of the population and 22.8% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 14.8% are under the age of 18 and 44.4% are 65 or older.
