Geography Fort Myers Beach is located at 26°26'19" North, 81°55'32" West (26.438676, -81.925620)¹.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 16.0 km² (6.2 mi²). 7.4 km² (2.9 mi²) of it is land and 8.5 km² (3.3 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 53.41% water.

Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 6,561 people, 3,425 households, and 2,048 families residing in the town. The population density is 885.7/km² (2,290.9/mi²). There are 8,429 housing units at an average density of 1,137.9/km² (2,943.2/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 97.24% White, 0.08% African American, 0.38% Native American, 0.29% Asian, 0.03% Pacific Islander, 0.99% from other races, and 0.99% from two or more races. 3.46% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 3,425 households out of which 7.7% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 53.8% are married couples living together, 4.0% have a female householder with no husband present, and 40.2% are non-families. 31.7% of all households are made up of individuals and 14.9% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older.
