Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 9,882 people, 2,432 households, and 2,307 families residing in the town. The population density is 579.0/km² (1,500.5/mi²). There are 2,813 housing units at an average density of 164.8/km² (427.1/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 62.46% White, 25.21% African American, 0.46% Native American, 2.98% Asian, 0.26% Pacific Islander, 3.58% from other races, and 5.06% from two or more races. 9.55% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 2,432 households out of which 78.7% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 81.0% are married couples living together, 10.6% have a female householder with no husband present, and 5.1% are non-families. 4.7% of all households are made up of individuals and 0.2% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 3.48 and the average family size is 3.58.
