Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 864 people, 326 households, and 227 families residing in the town. The population density is 241.7/km² (626.0/mi²). There are 348 housing units at an average density of 97.4/km² (252.1/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 67.13% White, 30.44% African American, 1.04% Native American, 0.23% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.69% from other races, and 0.46% from two or more races. 1.39% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 326 households out of which 38.7% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 45.1% are married couples living together, 21.2% have a female householder with no husband present, and 30.1% are non-families. 25.2% of all households are made up of individuals and 6.4% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older.
