Forsyth, Missouri

Forsyth is a city located in Taney County, Missouri. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 1,686. It is the county seat of Taney County6.

Geography Forsyth is located at 36°41'12" North, 93°6'46" West (36.686675, -93.112728)1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 5.3 km² (2.0 mi²). 5.3 km² (2.0 mi²) of it is land and 0.49% is water.

Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 1,686 people, 788 households, and 487 families residing in the city. The population density is 319.1/km² (824.9/mi²). There are 918 housing units at an average density of 173.7/km² (449.2/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 98.58% White, 0.06% African American, 0.30% Native American, 0.18% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.42% from other races, and 0.47% from two or more races. 1.01% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 788 households out of which 18.4% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 53.7% are married couples living together, 6.5% have a female householder with no husband present, and 38.1% are non-families. 34.8% of all households are made up of individuals and 20.6% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.04 and the average family size is 2.59.

In the city the population is spread out with 16.9% under the age of 18, 4.7% from 18 to 24, 20.6% from 25 to 44, 24.3% from 45 to 64, and 33.5% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 53 years. For every 100 females there are 84.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 79.8 males.

The median income for a household in the city is $31,801, and the median income for a family is $39,625. Males have a median income of $30,882 versus $19,183 for females. The per capita income for the city is $21,436. 9.7% of the population and 5.4% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 17.3% are under the age of 18 and 8.1% are 65 or older.
