Florence County is a county located in the State of Wisconsin. As of 2000, the population is 5,088. Its county seat is Florence6.

Geography According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 1,288 km² (497 mi²). 1,264 km² (488 mi²) of it is land and 24 km² (9 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 1.90% water.

Demographics As of the census1 of 2000, there are 5,088 people, 2,133 households, and 1,441 families residing in the county. The population density is 4/km² (10/mi²). There are 4,239 housing units at an average density of 3/km² (9/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 98.17% White, 0.16% African American, 0.43% Native American, 0.28% Asian, 0.02% Pacific Islander, 0.14% from other races, and 0.81% from two or more races. 0.45% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 2,133 households out of which 27.50% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 58.60% are married couples living together, 6.00% have a female householder with no husband present, and 32.40% are non-families. 27.90% of all households are made up of individuals and 12.50% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.35 and the average family size is 2.87.

In the county, the population is spread out with 22.90% under the age of 18, 5.30% from 18 to 24, 27.10% from 25 to 44, 27.30% from 45 to 64, and 17.50% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 42 years. For every 100 females there are 104.30 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 101.50 males.
