Its motto is Gens una sumus, meaning "We are one people".
The FIDE calculates the Elo rating, organizes events like World Championships, defines the rules of chess and appoints International Masters, Grandmasters and Arbiters.
Its current president is Kirsan Ilyumzhinov[?], who also is president of Kalmukkia, a small republic within Russia.
