Fannin County is a county located in the U.S. State of Texas. As of 2000, the population is 31,242. Its county seat is Bonham6.

Geography According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 2,329 km² (899 mi²). 2,309 km² (891 mi²) of it is land and 20 km² (8 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.86% water.

Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 31,242 people, 11,105 households, and 7,984 families residing in the county. The population density is 14/km² (35/mi²). There are 12,887 housing units at an average density of 6/km² (14/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 86.56% White, 7.96% African American, 0.92% Native American, 0.26% Asian, 0.03% Pacific Islander, 2.78% from other races, and 1.49% from two or more races. 5.61% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 11,105 households out of which 31.10% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 57.90% are married couples living together, 10.30% have a female householder with no husband present, and 28.10% are non-families. 25.20% of all households are made up of individuals and 12.70% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.51 and the average family size is 2.99.

In the county, the population is spread out with 23.20% under the age of 18, 8.90% from 18 to 24, 28.60% from 25 to 44, 23.20% from 45 to 64, and 16.10% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 38 years. For every 100 females there are 113.80 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 116.90 males.

The median income for a household in the county is $34,501, and the median income for a family is $42,193. Males have a median income of $31,140 versus $23,101 for females. The per capita income for the county is $16,066. 13.90% of the population and 9.90% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 17.70% are under the age of 18 and 16.50% are 65 or older.
