Fannin County, Georgia

Fannin County is a county located in the U.S. State of Georgia. As of 2000, the population is 19,798. The county's county seat is Blue Ridge, Georgia6.

Geography According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 1,014 km² (391 mi²). 999 km² (386 mi²) of it is land and 15 km² (6 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 1.45% water.

Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 19,798 people, 8,369 households, and 6,008 families residing in the county. The population density is 20/km² (51/mi²). There are 11,134 housing units at an average density of 11/km² (29/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 97.98% White, 0.12% African American, 0.47% Native American, 0.24% Asian, 0.01% Pacific Islander, 0.16% from other races, and 1.03% from two or more races. 0.66% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 8,369 households out of which 25.90% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 59.80% are married couples living together, 8.90% have a female householder with no husband present, and 28.20% are non-families. 25.60% of all households are made up of individuals and 12.80% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.35 and the average family size is 2.80.

In the county the population is spread out with 20.90% under the age of 18, 7.00% from 18 to 24, 24.90% from 25 to 44, 28.20% from 45 to 64, and 19.00% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 43 years. For every 100 females there are 93.50 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 90.80 males.

The median income for a household in the county is $30,612, and the median income for a family is $35,258. Males have a median income of $28,728 versus $21,246 for females. The per capita income for the county is $16,269. 12.40% of the population and 10.20% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 14.10% are under the age of 18 and 14.20% are 65 or older.
