Fairmont City is a village located in Madison County, Illinois. As of the 2000 census, the village had a total population of 2,436.

Geography Fairmont City is located at 38°39'4" North, 90°5'59" West (38.651200, -90.099788)1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 6.2 km² (2.4 mi²). 6.2 km² (2.4 mi²) of it is land and none of it is covered by water.

Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 2,436 people, 871 households, and 580 families residing in the village. The population density is 391.9/km² (1,013.1/mi²). There are 939 housing units at an average density of 151.1/km² (390.5/mi²). The racial makeup of the village is 66.54% White, 1.23% African American, 0.94% Native American, 0.08% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 27.50% from other races, and 3.69% from two or more races. 55.38% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 871 households out of which 29.9% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 45.9% are married couples living together, 11.7% have a female householder with no husband present, and 33.4% are non-families. 29.2% of all households are made up of individuals and 14.7% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.80 and the average family size is 3.45.

In the village the population is spread out with 26.7% under the age of 18, 11.7% from 18 to 24, 28.7% from 25 to 44, 18.6% from 45 to 64, and 14.2% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 32 years. For every 100 females there are 116.0 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 114.7 males.

The median income for a household in the village is $27,070, and the median income for a family is $31,296. Males have a median income of $21,766 versus $21,576 for females. The per capita income for the village is $12,203. 18.4% of the population and 14.7% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 26.5% are under the age of 18 and 10.7% are 65 or older.
