Eufaula, Oklahoma

Eufaula is a city located in McIntosh County, Oklahoma. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 2,639. It is the county seat of McIntosh County6.

Geography Eufaula is located at 35°17'31" North, 95°35'12" West (35.291895, -95.586528)1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 24.9 km² (9.6 mi²). 17.2 km² (6.6 mi²) of it is land and 7.8 km² (3.0 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 31.15% water.

Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 2,639 people, 1,150 households, and 663 families residing in the city. The population density is 153.7/km² (397.8/mi²). There are 1,468 housing units at an average density of 85.5/km² (221.3/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 66.46% White, 7.43% African American, 17.92% Native American, 0.30% Asian, 0.04% Pacific Islander, 0.27% from other races, and 7.58% from two or more races. 1.21% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 1,150 households out of which 21.3% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 41.1% are married couples living together, 13.3% have a female householder with no husband present, and 42.3% are non-families. 38.4% of all households are made up of individuals and 25.0% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.16 and the average family size is 2.85.

In the city the population is spread out with 20.8% under the age of 18, 6.7% from 18 to 24, 20.0% from 25 to 44, 23.2% from 45 to 64, and 29.2% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 47 years. For every 100 females there are 81.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 75.8 males.

The median income for a household in the city is $20,547, and the median income for a family is $28,871. Males have a median income of $25,673 versus $19,405 for females. The per capita income for the city is $15,521. 27.6% of the population and 20.9% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 45.4% are under the age of 18 and 17.8% are 65 or older.
