Estero is a town located in Lee County, Florida. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 9,503.

Geography Estero is located at 26°25'56" North, 81°48'34" West (26.432237, -81.809447)1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 54.7 km² (21.1 mi²). 54.6 km² (21.1 mi²) of it is land and 0.1 km² (0.1 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.24% water.

Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 9,503 people, 4,608 households, and 3,336 families residing in the town. The population density is 174.1/km² (450.7/mi²). There are 7,345 housing units at an average density of 134.5/km² (348.4/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 97.43% White, 0.64% African American, 0.11% Native American, 0.35% Asian, 0.01% Pacific Islander, 0.77% from other races, and 0.69% from two or more races. 3.19% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 4,608 households out of which 10.0% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 68.2% are married couples living together, 2.8% have a female householder with no husband present, and 27.6% are non-families. 23.4% of all households are made up of individuals and 12.4% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.01 and the average family size is 2.31.

In the town the population is spread out with 9.2% under the age of 18, 4.9% from 18 to 24, 14.1% from 25 to 44, 31.1% from 45 to 64, and 40.6% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 61 years. For every 100 females there are 93.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 92.6 males.

The median income for a household in the town is $43,734, and the median income for a family is $51,227. Males have a median income of $38,886 versus $27,883 for females. The per capita income for the town is $30,521. 3.2% of the population and 1.9% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 1.1% are under the age of 18 and 3.2% are 65 or older.
