Essex Fells is a borough located in Essex County, New Jersey. As of the 2000 census, the borough had a total population of 2,162.

Geography Essex Fells is located at 40°49'39" North, 74°16'51" West (40.827499, -74.280918)1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the borough has a total area of 3.7 km² (1.4 mi²). 3.7 km² (1.4 mi²) of it is land and none of it is covered by water.

Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 2,162 people, 737 households, and 605 families residing in the borough. The population density is 592.0/km² (1,534.0/mi²). There are 761 housing units at an average density of 208.4/km² (540.0/mi²). The racial makeup of the borough is 96.95% White, 0.46% African American, 0.19% Native American, 1.02% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.14% from other races, and 1.25% from two or more races. 1.20% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 737 households out of which 40.0% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 75.3% are married couples living together, 5.3% have a female householder with no husband present, and 17.9% are non-families. 15.1% of all households are made up of individuals and 8.4% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.93 and the average family size is 3.28.

In the borough the population is spread out with 29.7% under the age of 18, 3.6% from 18 to 24, 24.5% from 25 to 44, 27.5% from 45 to 64, and 14.7% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 40 years. For every 100 females there are 96.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 94.6 males.

The median income for a household in the borough is $148,173, and the median income for a family is $175,000. Males have a median income of $100,000 versus $52,266 for females. The per capita income for the borough is $77,434. 1.1% of the population and 0.3% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 0.9% are under the age of 18 and 0.6% are 65 or older.
