Essen, Belgium

Essen is a municipality located in the Belgian province of Antwerp. The municipality only comprises the town of Essen proper. On January 1st, 2000 Essen had a total population of 16,407 (8,156 males and 8,251 females). The total area is 47.66 km² which gives a population density of 344.25 inhabitants per km².

The town is near the border with the Netherlands. It has a train station; going north it is the last one in Belgium. The next station is Roosendaal, Noord-Brabant, Netherlands.
