Erath is a town located in Vermilion Parish, Louisiana. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 2,187.

Geography Erath is located at 29°57'36" North, 92°2'7" West (29.959939, -92.035220)1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 3.9 km² (1.5 mi²). 3.9 km² (1.5 mi²) of it is land and none of it is covered by water.

Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 2,187 people, 819 households, and 580 families residing in the town. The population density is 562.9/km² (1,453.7/mi²). There are 887 housing units at an average density of 228.3/km² (589.6/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 89.12% White, 6.22% African American, 0.18% Native American, 3.52% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.32% from other races, and 0.64% from two or more races. 0.69% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 819 households out of which 35.0% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 50.7% are married couples living together, 16.1% have a female householder with no husband present, and 29.1% are non-families. 25.9% of all households are made up of individuals and 12.5% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.56 and the average family size is 3.09.

In the town the population is spread out with 26.2% under the age of 18, 10.2% from 18 to 24, 27.0% from 25 to 44, 19.9% from 45 to 64, and 16.6% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 36 years. For every 100 females there are 83.0 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 77.2 males.

The median income for a household in the town is $27,386, and the median income for a family is $36,204. Males have a median income of $28,750 versus $19,118 for females. The per capita income for the town is $13,327. 18.2% of the population and 15.5% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 22.0% are under the age of 18 and 24.7% are 65 or older.
