Entheogen

Entheogens are substances that can be extracted from plants or manufactured synthetically and then used for their psychoactive properties.

Entheogen literally means "god within" or "spirit-facilitating." There are dozens or even hundreds of chemicals and plants that fall into this category. This category of psychoactives are taken sacramentally or ritualistically to catalyze religious experiences[?].

Most of these substances are today considered to be illegal recreational drugs in most jurisdictions; the term "entheogen" is normally associated with advocates of psychoactive drugs.

See: Psilocybin, LSD, MDMA, Mescaline
