Elves are mythical creatures (see elf).

Elves (originally ELFs) are an optical and electromagnetic phenomenon observed from space. They are visible as red flashes of electricity that shoot upward from thunderclouds. [1] (http://www.nytimes.com/2003/01/21/science/21SHUT?todaysheadlines).
