Ector County is a county located in the U.S. State of Texas. As of 2000, the population is 121,123. Its county seat is Odessa6.

Geography According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 2,335 km² (902 mi²). 2,334 km² (901 mi²) of it is land and 2 km² (1 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.07% water.

Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 121,123 people, 43,846 households, and 31,700 families residing in the county. The population density is 52/km² (134/mi²). There are 49,500 housing units at an average density of 21/km² (55/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 73.69% White, 4.61% African American, 0.83% Native American, 0.64% Asian, 0.04% Pacific Islander, 17.38% from other races, and 2.81% from two or more races. 42.36% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 43,846 households out of which 38.90% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 54.10% are married couples living together, 13.70% have a female householder with no husband present, and 27.70% are non-families. 24.00% of all households are made up of individuals and 8.90% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.72 and the average family size is 3.25.

In the county, the population is spread out with 30.40% under the age of 18, 10.50% from 18 to 24, 27.90% from 25 to 44, 20.20% from 45 to 64, and 10.90% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 32 years. For every 100 females there are 94.70 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 90.90 males.

The median income for a household in the county is $31,152, and the median income for a family is $36,369. Males have a median income of $30,632 versus $21,317 for females. The per capita income for the county is $15,031. 18.70% of the population and 16.10% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 23.90% are under the age of 18 and 14.30% are 65 or older.
