East Donegal Township, Pennsylvania

Geography According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 62.4 km² (24.1 mi²). 56.5 km² (21.8 mi²) of it is land and 5.9 km² (2.3 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 9.46% water.

Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 5,405 people, 1,941 households, and 1,554 families residing in the township. The population density is 95.6/km² (247.7/mi²). There are 2,010 housing units at an average density of 35.6/km² (92.1/mi²). The racial makeup of the township is 97.19% White, 0.76% African American, 0.06% Native American, 0.57% Asian, 0.04% Pacific Islander, 0.65% from other races, and 0.74% from two or more races. 1.78% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 1,941 households out of which 38.9% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 70.1% are married couples living together, 6.6% have a female householder with no husband present, and 19.9% are non-families. 16.1% of all households are made up of individuals and 4.8% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.78 and the average family size is 3.13.

In the township the population is spread out with 27.9% under the age of 18, 7.9% from 18 to 24, 32.6% from 25 to 44, 22.5% from 45 to 64, and 9.1% who are 65 years of age or older.
