Earl Township is a township located in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. As of the 2000 census, the township had a total population of 6,183.

Geography According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 56.9 km² (22.0 mi²). 56.9 km² (22.0 mi²) of it is land and 0.1 km² (0.04 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.14% water.

Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 6,183 people, 2,019 households, and 1,617 families residing in the township. The population density is 108.8/km² (281.7/mi²). There are 2,126 housing units at an average density of 37.4/km² (96.9/mi²). The racial makeup of the township is 97.27% White, 0.60% African American, 0.00% Native American, 1.15% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.19% from other races, and 0.79% from two or more races. 1.07% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 2,019 households out of which 34.5% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 72.4% are married couples living together, 5.4% have a female householder with no husband present, and 19.9% are non-families. 17.9% of all households are made up of individuals and 11.1% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 3.06 and the average family size is 3.50.

In the township the population is spread out with 31.6% under the age of 18, 9.3% from 18 to 24, 21.0% from 25 to 44, 20.3% from 45 to 64, and 17.9% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 34 years. For every 100 females there are 92.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 89.1 males.

The median income for a household in the township is $39,266, and the median income for a family is $42,667. Males have a median income of $32,635 versus $21,211 for females. The per capita income for the township is $17,503. 15.0% of the population and 9.5% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 25.9% are under the age of 18 and 8.4% are 65 or older.
