Eagle River, Wisconsin

Eagle River is a city located in Vilas County, Wisconsin. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 1,443. It is the county seat of Vilas County6.

Geography Eagle River is located at 45°55'12" North, 89°15'1" West (45.919902, -89.250210)1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 7.1 km² (2.7 mi²). 6.6 km² (2.5 mi²) of it is land and 0.5 km² (0.2 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 6.59% water.

Demographics As of the census1 of 2000, there are 1,443 people, 626 households, and 321 families residing in the city. The population density is 218.5/km² (566.3/mi²). There are 726 housing units at an average density of 109.9/km² (284.9/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 95.98% White, 1.39% African American, 1.94% Native American, 0.00% Asian, 0.07% Pacific Islander, 0.35% from other races, and 0.28% from two or more races. 0.83% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 626 households out of which 23.0% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 35.8% are married couples living together, 11.2% have a female householder with no husband present, and 48.7% are non-families. 43.6% of all households are made up of individuals and 24.6% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.01 and the average family size is 2.80.

In the city the population is spread out with 19.4% under the age of 18, 8.2% from 18 to 24, 25.4% from 25 to 44, 20.6% from 45 to 64, and 26.5% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 42 years. For every 100 females there are 82.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 76.7 males.

The median income for a household in the city is $23,611, and the median income for a family is $36,339. Males have a median income of $29,375 versus $21,477 for females. The per capita income for the city is $15,876. 11.8% of the population and 8.6% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 15.9% are under the age of 18 and 11.7% are 65 or older.
