Duchesne is a city located in Duchesne County, Utah. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 1,408. It is the county seat of Duchesne County6.

Geography Duchesne is located at 40°9'52" North, 110°24'2" West (40.164388, -110.400607)1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 6.0 km² (2.3 mi²). 6.0 km² (2.3 mi²) of it is land and none of the area is covered with water.

Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 1,408 people, 463 households, and 342 families residing in the city. The population density is 236.4/km² (611.3/mi²). There are 550 housing units at an average density of 92.3/km² (238.8/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 96.95% White, 0.28% African American, 0.71% Native American, 0.36% Asian, 0.14% Pacific Islander, 0.36% from other races, and 1.21% from two or more races. 2.77% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 463 households out of which 45.4% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 63.1% are married couples living together, 8.9% have a female householder with no husband present, and 26.1% are non-families. 22.0% of all households are made up of individuals and 10.8% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.97 and the average family size is 3.55.

In the city the population is spread out with 37.1% under the age of 18, 8.6% from 18 to 24, 25.5% from 25 to 44, 19.4% from 45 to 64, and 9.4% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 28 years. For every 100 females there are 96.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 94.1 males.

The median income for a household in the city is $32,426, and the median income for a family is $37,174. Males have a median income of $35,046 versus $20,417 for females. The per capita income for the city is $12,337. 12.4% of the population and 11.2% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 14.3% are under the age of 18 and 9.7% are 65 or older.
