The Domestic Violence Offender Gun Ban (1996) was a piece of legislation passed by the US Congress. The law banned ownership and use of guns by individuals convicted of misdemeanordomestic violence. The ban became increasingly controversial after the discovery that it banned a number of police and soldiers from firearm access.
