Dolores Hidalgo

Dolores Hidalgo is a small city in the state of Guanajuato, Mexico. Dolores Hidalgo is located at 21.17°N 100.93°W, at an elevation of about 6200 feet above sea level. In 2000 it was estimated to have a population of about 50,000 people.

History The city was a small town known simply as Dolores when Miguel Hidalgo uttered his famous cry for the independence of Mexico (the "Grito de Dolores") here on September 16, 1910. After Mexico achieved independence, the town was renamed "Dolores Hidalgo" in his honor.
