Dodoma

Dodoma, estimated population 215,000 (1994), is the official capital of Tanzania. It is the center of a region that produces beans, seeds, grain, peanuts, coffee, tea, and tobacco. Cattle are also raised and marketed.

In the mid-1970s, plans were made to move the capital to Dodoma. Tanzania's national assembly moved there in February, 1996, but many government offices remain in the original national capital, Dar-es-Salaam[?].
