Discovery Bay, California

Discovery Bay is a town located in Contra Costa County, California. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 8,981.

Geography Discovery Bay is located at 37°54'23" North, 121°36'24" West (37.906386, -121.606622)1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 23.7 km² (9.1 mi²). 20.9 km² (8.1 mi²) of it is land and 2.7 km² (1.1 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 11.60% water.

Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 8,981 people, 3,349 households, and 2,635 families residing in the town. The population density is 429.2/km² (1,111.9/mi²). There are 3,781 housing units at an average density of 180.7/km² (468.1/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 87.57% White, 1.84% African American, 0.84% Native American, 1.78% Asian, 0.18% Pacific Islander, 3.95% from other races, and 3.84% from two or more races. 10.43% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 3,349 households out of which 33.7% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 71.3% are married couples living together, 4.3% have a female householder with no husband present, and 21.3% are non-families. 14.0% of all households are made up of individuals and 2.9% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.64 and the average family size is 2.91.

In the town the population is spread out with 24.5% under the age of 18, 4.4% from 18 to 24, 33.0% from 25 to 44, 29.5% from 45 to 64, and 8.6% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 39 years. For every 100 females there are 107.0 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 106.6 males.

The median income for a household in the town is $89,915, and the median income for a family is $90,272. Males have a median income of $66,121 versus $41,850 for females. The per capita income for the town is $41,313. 3.3% of the population and 1.9% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 1.7% are under the age of 18 and 4.3% are 65 or older.
