Disarming Act

The Disarming Act was passed after the '45 Jacobite Rebellion with the stated intention of breaking the character of the Highlands.

It banned weapons and the wearing of tartan. It seems to have been widely ignored after its initial enforcement, and was repealed in 1782.

Contrary to popular belief, the Disarming Act did not ban the bagpipes or the playing of them.
