Dimeter

In poetry, a dimeter is a metrical line of verse with two feet. Consider Thomas Hood's "Bridge of Sighs:"

 Take her up \\ tenderly,
 Lift her with \\ care,
 Fashioned so \\ slenderly,
 Young and so \\ fair.
