DeadJournal

DeadJournal is a website which allows Internet users to maintain an online journal, or "blog." It was created using the open source code of LiveJournal, written mostly by Brad Fitzpatrick, and presents itself as a darker alternative to the world of LiveJournal, stating on their front page that they specifically want the journals of angry and/or depressed people.

As of December 2002, 364,027 people owned a DeadJournal, 40,893 of whom had updated in the last week. 1 (http://www.deadjournal.com/stats.bml)

Originally, DeadJournal also presented itself as a "more free" alternative to LiveJournal, lacking the invite codes that LiveJournal had set in place to control its growth. Now, DeadJournal too requires a new user desiring journal space to have an invite code from an existing user or to pay for an account.
