David Douglas

) was a
Scottish
botanist
; the
Douglas-fir
is named for him. He collected the fir and many other
conifers
that transformed the British landscape and
timber industry[?]
on a journey through the
Pacific Northwest
in 1824 on behalf of the
Royal Horticultural Society
. He died in
Hawaii
at age 35 when he fell into a pit trap and was trampled by a wild bull.
