Danville, Illinois

Danville is a city located in Vermilion County, Illinois. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 33,904. It is the county seat of Vermilion County6.

Geography Danville is located at 40°8'21" North, 87°37'17" West (40.139273, -87.621507)1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 44.3 km² (17.1 mi²). 44.0 km² (17.0 mi²) of it is land and 0.3 km² (0.1 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.58% water.

Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 33,904 people, 13,327 households, and 8,156 families residing in the city. The population density is 770.0/km² (1,994.0/mi²). There are 14,886 housing units at an average density of 338.1/km² (875.5/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 70.19% White, 24.37% African American, 0.21% Native American, 1.20% Asian, 0.03% Pacific Islander, 2.09% from other races, and 1.92% from two or more races. 4.57% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 13,327 households out of which 28.3% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 42.0% are married couples living together, 15.1% have a female householder with no husband present, and 38.8% are non-families. 33.9% of all households are made up of individuals and 15.5% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.35 and the average family size is 3.01.

In the city the population is spread out with 24.9% under the age of 18, 9.5% from 18 to 24, 27.7% from 25 to 44, 21.3% from 45 to 64, and 16.6% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 37 years. For every 100 females there are 99.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 97.7 males.

The median income for a household in the city is $30,431, and the median income for a family is $39,308. Males have a median income of $31,027 versus $22,303 for females. The per capita income for the city is $16,476. 18.1% of the population and 13.4% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 26.8% are under the age of 18 and 10.5% are 65 or older.
