Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 17,390 people, 5,694 households, and 4,931 families residing in the town. The population density is 997.7/km² (2,585.1/mi²). There are 5,806 housing units at an average density of 333.1/km² (863.1/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 89.21% White, 3.90% African American, 0.11% Native American, 3.00% Asian, 0.03% Pacific Islander, 1.91% from other races, and 1.85% from two or more races. 26.19% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 5,694 households out of which 46.6% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 75.6% are married couples living together, 8.9% have a female householder with no husband present, and 13.4% are non-families. 10.8% of all households are made up of individuals and 3.4% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older.
