Crystal Lake is a town located in Polk County, Florida. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 5,341 (5300 in 1990).

Geography Crystal Lake is located at 28°2'4" North, 81°54'38" West (28.034348, -81.910527)1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 7.3 km² (2.8 mi²). 7.0 km² (2.7 mi²) of it is land and 0.3 km² (0.1 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 4.27% water. The town is located at 28.03525 N, 81.90847 W.

Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 5,341 people, 2,151 households, and 1,383 families residing in the town. The population density is 766.6/km² (1,983.9/mi²). There are 2,389 housing units at an average density of 342.9/km² (887.4/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 80.94% White, 13.63% African American, 0.75% Native American, 0.88% Asian, 0.02% Pacific Islander, 2.45% from other races, and 1.33% from two or more races. 7.21% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 2,151 households out of which 30.0% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 42.5% are married couples living together, 16.2% have a female householder with no husband present, and 35.7% are non-families. 25.6% of all households are made up of individuals and 8.6% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.48 and the average family size is 2.96.

In the town the population is spread out with 25.5% under the age of 18, 12.1% from 18 to 24, 29.6% from 25 to 44, 19.3% from 45 to 64, and 13.5% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 34 years. For every 100 females there are 97.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 96.7 males.

The median income for a household in the town is $30,699, and the median income for a family is $35,591. Males have a median income of $28,125 versus $22,110 for females. The per capita income for the town is $15,606. 16.4% of the population and 13.7% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 19.2% are under the age of 18 and 9.6% are 65 or older.
