Geography Covington is located at 39°3'54" North, 84°30'35" West (39.065111, -84.509594)¹.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 35.4 km² (13.7 mi²). 34.0 km² (13.1 mi²) of it is land and 1.4 km² (0.5 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 3.88% water.

Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 43,370 people, 18,257 households, and 10,132 families residing in the city. The population density is 1,274.4/km² (3,301.3/mi²). There are 20,448 housing units at an average density of 600.8/km² (1,556.5/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 87.05% White, 10.14% African American, 0.24% Native American, 0.34% Asian, 0.03% Pacific Islander, 0.63% from other races, and 1.57% from two or more races. 1.38% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 18,257 households out of which 28.8% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 34.3% are married couples living together, 16.5% have a female householder with no husband present, and 44.5% are non-families. 36.5% of all households are made up of individuals and 12.0% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older.
