Counting the Omer

A 50-day count begun during Passover week and culminating in Shavuot. The barley harvest in Israel begins during Passover; the omer is a Biblical measure of volume of grain.

Many Jews adopt certain customs related to mourning during this period, except on the 33rd day, called Lag b'Omer.
