Council of Guardians

The Council of Guardians is Iran's highest political decision-making body. It is composed of Islamic clerics who obey strict Islamic law and attempt to make sure the nation of Iran continues to operate according to these laws.

The Council approves all candidates for election to the Iranian Presidency and Iran's legislative branch. They also hold veto power over all legislation.

The Council's leader is the Faqih also known as the Leader of the Revolution or simply the Supreme Leader who serves as Iran's Head of State.
