The
Corporation for Public Broadcasting is a private non-profit corporation which is chartered and funded by the United States Federal Government to promote public broadcasting. The CPB was founded in
1967, and initially collaborated with the pre-existing
National Educational Television network, but in
1969 decided to start its own network,
PBS. The Corporation for Public Broadcasting provides some funding for the
Public Broadcasting System and
National Public Radio.
