Copyright law of the European Union

The European Union has made various directives on copyright law which member states are obliged to implement. The directive of May 22, 2001 has been controversial for similar reasons to the Digital Millennium Copyright Act of the United States. By the end of 2002, only two member states had implemented the directive.
