Copeland, Oklahoma

Copeland is a town located in Delaware County, Oklahoma. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 1,448.

Geography Copeland is located at 36°39'17" North, 94°47'48" West (36.654833, -94.796784)1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 19.6 km² (7.6 mi²). 19.6 km² (7.6 mi²) of it is land and 0.13% is water.

Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 1,448 people, 642 households, and 450 families residing in the town. The population density is 73.9/km² (191.3/mi²). There are 976 housing units at an average density of 49.8/km² (128.9/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 82.80% White, 0.41% African American, 11.95% Native American, 0.07% Asian, 0.35% Pacific Islander, 0.55% from other races, and 3.87% from two or more races. 1.45% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 642 households out of which 20.6% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 60.6% are married couples living together, 6.1% have a female householder with no husband present, and 29.9% are non-families. 26.0% of all households are made up of individuals and 10.1% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.26 and the average family size is 2.69.

In the town the population is spread out with 18.9% under the age of 18, 5.1% from 18 to 24, 21.5% from 25 to 44, 32.9% from 45 to 64, and 21.5% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 49 years. For every 100 females there are 103.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 102.1 males.

The median income for a household in the town is $22,459, and the median income for a family is $33,071. Males have a median income of $22,560 versus $16,121 for females. The per capita income for the town is $16,252. 18.3% of the population and 13.8% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 39.1% are under the age of 18 and 5.4% are 65 or older.
